Meet The Assistant Director
Kristy Duenwald was raised in Kansas City, MO where she fell in love with three things: Dance, soccer, and Kansas Jayhawk basketball. She started learning tap and jazz at the age of four, and was introduced to hip hop when she joined her high school dance team. She was then able to combine her three passions by attending the University of Kansas, where she taught tap and jazz and coached a youth boys' soccer team. She was also a member of the Kansas City Wizards’ dance team during college, where she was thrilled to watch professional soccer while dancing on the sideline!
After graduating from KU with a degree in Journalism, Kristy moved to Chicago to work as a media planner at an advertising agency. While there she taught cardio kickboxing and cardio dance at her agency's health club.
Kristy then moved to Minneapolis, MN with her husband, Matthew, where she worked as an Account Manager at an advertising agency while working on her Master’s in Education at the University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis. She was also enjoyed teaching boys’ competitive hip hop at a local dance studio while there as well.
Kristy and Matt moved to Frisco for her husband’s job three years ago, and their two children, Avery (9) and Bennett (5), couldn’t be happier living in Texas. Kristy currently teaches 6th and 7th grade Pre-AP ILA at Pearson Middle School, and is incredibly excited to join the team at Wakeland as an 11th grade English teacher and Assistant Drill Team Director.
