The Wakeland High School Legacy Line competed in the American Dance /Drill Team North Texas Regional Competition on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Rockwall-Heath High School.
Under the direction of Christina Grider and Samantha Knight, the young team brought home Super Sweepstakes and Gussie Nell Davis trophies for both the team and the officer routines that they took to competition, as well as 1st Runner-Up in the Medium High School Team Division. Captain Cara Rzucidlo, Lieutenant Mary Doerr, and Lieutenant Natalie English earned Judges Awards for their novelty and lyrical performances.
The Legacies were also presented with the Judges Awards for their team pom and team high-kick routines. The team will also be adding to their trophy case: Best Overall Team awards for Technique, Precision and Choreography.
Best in Class Awards went to Brittany Kirkindoll, Jordan Samuel, and Krystal Hall for their small ensemble, as well as to Ashley Davis, Celia Flores, Nadia Grier, Krystal Hall, Morgan Hawter, Stormy McBride, Becky Ray, Stephanie Shaw and Diannah Watson, for their performance in the medium ensemble category. The Legacy Line was also recognized for a Best in Class performance for the duet that was performed by Ashlee Davis and Jessica Rodriguez.
Solo performances were also taken to competition by Capt. Cara Rzucidlo, Lt. Natalie English, senior Ariel Clemmons, and sophomores Kimberly Fulmer and Kardi Barton. Kimberly Fulmer won the Medium High School Division for her performance, and Capt. Cara Rzucidlo placed 2nd Runner-Up.
Ms. Grider and Ms. Knight are tremendously proud of the girls’ performance at their first competition of the season. Ms. Grider said, “I am bragging to anyone who will sit still long enough to listen.”
The Legacy Line will compete on February 21, 2009 at Keller Fossil Ridge High School. We would like to invite you to come out and support your WHS Legacies.
